Bovine and Swine Hide Tanning

Its printed title: The Biochemical and Mechanical Engineering of Bovine and Swine Leather Manufacture: Brain and Bark Tanning for High-Stress Applications

Turning cattle and pig hides into heavy leather by brain tanning and bark tanning, for forge aprons, belts and straps. It compares the two hides in a table, explains why the fat inside pigskin makes it hard to tan, and describes bark-tan pits gauged with a barkometer and red rot, the slow ruin of bark-tanned leather in sulphurous air. It puts a raw hide at about 65% water. The opening restates the slaughter documents, and several chemical symbols dropped out in extraction.
