Historical Dining Cutlery Fabrication
Its printed title: The Civilized Table: Applied Metallurgy, Tribology, and Material Culture of Cutlery and Hollowware in Post-Industrial Brandenburg
Knives, forks, spoons and pewter for the table, set in the history of manners from Norbert Elias and the fork's arrival in Venice in 1004 to the Tafelrunde at Sanssouci. It then turns practical: forging cutlery from salvaged metal, tinning, casting pewter while facing its lead problem, carving spoons from birch and cherry, cleaning, polishing without bought abrasives, and a year's plan to equip a table of twelve. Berlin's pewterers' guild supplies the local history.
